IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE POULTRY SHOW

The Washington Country Fair, after consulting with the Rhode Island State Veterinarian, will be having its poultry shows during the Fair! However, no out-of-state birds or any water fowls will be admitted. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

POULTRY DIVISION

RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. All entries due by August 1 through online registration.
  2. All animals must be in good health and free from disease. NO WATERFOWL OR OUT OF STATE BIRDS.
  3. Limit 10 chickens per youth exhibitor. Limit 5 chickens per adult exhibitor. NOTE: Adult entries and late entries will be trimmed first to accommodate youth in the
    event of an overfull barn.
  4. All entries must state – All entries must state – Open or Youth (ages 5-18 years as of January 1st, year of Fair), breed of animal, variety (or color), and class (cock, hen, cockerel, or pullet). If you have any questions, please call the superintendent.
  5. Exhibitors may enter only one show; please state Open Show or Youth Show.
  6. Entry fee is $1.00 each in Open Show, $.25 each for the youth show.
  7. All animals must be brought to the Fair on Tuesday between 5pm and 9pm. Animals will be released at 6:30pm on Sunday. Although rare, the release time is subject to change so please be understanding. Exhibitors must be there at this time.
  8. Breed Judging will take place starting at 9am Wednesday, followed by Showmanship at 1pm. The Poultry Barn will be closed during judging. Any grievances with judging outcomes must be brought to the attention of the poultry superintendent prior to the judge leaving the fairgrounds.
  9. A pass will be given to each exhibitor entering three or more animals only, see Superintendent.
  10. Animals will be cared for by experienced volunteers. All feed and bedding will be supplied by the fair. All animals exhibited will be at the sole risk of the owner. Youth staying on the Fairgrounds are expected to check in on their birds at least once per day. Parents and youth volunteers are welcome to sign up for shifts in the Rabbit and Poultry barn throughout the Fair week. This will give the youth a chance to talk about their animal projects to the general public.
  11. No changing or substitution at coop-in.

Open Poultry Show

  1. Judging will be on Wednesday at 9am.
  2. Poultry will be judged by the ABA & APA Standard of Perfection.
  3. No Standard Waterfowl. Bantam ducks only! NOT PERMITTED IN 2026
  4. $1.00 each entry fee.

Youth Poultry Shows

  1. Open to all Youth 5-18 years of age.
  2. $.25 each entry fee.
  3. Youth show will follow all guidelines as open show.

Poultry Showmanship

  1. All entries due by August 1st through online registration.
  2. Showmanship begins at 1:00 PM on Wednesday (Permitted breed judging has concluded)
  3. Showmanship attire shall be a white collared shirt, black pants, and optional lab coat.
  4. There will be a strict time limit of 10 minutes per youth for showmanship due to the large influx of exhibitors in the past years.
  5. Please be aware that participants may be in the ring or waiting to enter the ring for an extended period. We understand that some of you may show multiple species, we will do our best to accommodate everyone around show schedules.

Classes
- Class 1: Novice (Any age under 18; First year showing)

- Class 2: Pee-Wee (Ages 5-7 as of January 1st)

- Class 3: Freshman (Age 7-9 as of January 1st)

- Class 4: Junior (Age 10-12 as of January 1st)

- Class 5: Intermediate (Age 13-15 as of January 1st)

- Class 6: Senior (Age 16-18 as of January 1st)

Showmanship:
1st $20.00, 2nd 15.00, 3rd $10.00; 4th $5.00


Rooster Crowing Contest

THERE WILL BE A SIGN UP SHEET ON THE DESK IN THE POULTRY/RABBIT BARN
  1. Entry fee $2.00 per bird. Cages provided.
  2. A bird that crows the most times in allotted time is the winner.
  3. No touching cage or bird.
  4. Winner takes all entry money (guaranteed $20.00).
  5. Open to anyone, BIRD MUST BE ENTERED IN THE SHOW
