IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING 2023 POULTRY SHOW

The Washington Country Fair, after consulting with the Rhode Island State Veterinarian, will be having its poultry shows during the Fair! However, no out-of-state birds will be admitted. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

POULTRY DIVISION

RULES & REGULATIONS

  1. All entries must be completed online.
  2. All animals must be in good health and free from disease.
  3. Limit 20 chickens per exhibitor. MAX OF 4 (FOUR) STANDARD SIZED BIRDS PER EXHIBITOR.
  4. All entries must state – Open or Youth (ages 5-18 years old), breed of animal (or pet class), variety (or color) and class (cock, hen, cockerel, pullet). If you have any questions, please call the superintendent.
  5. There will be classes for mixed breed, pet stock as well as purebred.
  6. Entry fee is $.75 each in Open Show, $.25 each for the youth show.
  7. Exhibitors may enter only one show; please state Open Show or Youth Show.
  8. All animals must be brought to the Fair on Tuesday between 5pm and 9pm. Animals will be released at 6:30pm on Sunday. Although rare, the release time is subject to change so please be understanding. Exhibitors must be there at this time.
  9. A pass will be given to each exhibitor entering three or more animals only, see Superintendent.
  10. Animals will be cared for by experienced volunteers. All animals exhibited will be at the sole risk of the owner.
  11. Out-of-state animals will be accepted on space availability basis.
  12. No changing or substitution at coop-in.

Open Poultry Show

  1. Judging will be on Wednesday.
  2. Purebreds will be judged by the ABA & APA standard of perfection.
  3. There will be classes for mixed breeds.
  4. No Standard Waterfowl. Bantam ducks only!
  5. $.75 each entry fee.

Please specify: cock, cockerel, hen or pullet

Breed

Variety (color)

Pet classes will be judged/grouped accordingly. Classes will be judged using the Danish System.

Prizes for Best and Reserve Bantam
Best and Reserve Standard
Best and Reserve Waterfowl
Best and Reserve Pet (mixed breeds)
Ribbons given for First, Second and Third Place.


Other Poultry Shows

  1. Open to all Youth 5-18 years of age.
  2. $.25 each entry fee.
  3. Judging by the Danish system.
  4. Same awards as the Open Show.

Poultry Showmanship

  1. There will be Poultry Showmanship classes if there is any interest. Sign up will be online. If you think you may want to do showmanship, please sign up online. I’m not sure if you will be able to sign up once entries are closed.
  2. Showmanship begins at 1:00 PM on Wednesday (Note: Order of the showmanship classes is at the discretion of the judges. Please check the barn for the order of classes.)
  3. We understand that some of you may show multiple species. If there is going to be a conflict with poultry and/or rabbit showmanship, please come see me and we will try to squeeze you in between your other shows.

1st $20.00, 2nd 15.00, 3rd $10.00; 4th $5.00


Rooster Crowing Contest

THERE WILL BE A SIGN UP SHEET ON THE DESK IN THE POULTRY/RABBIT BARN
  1. Entry fee $2.00 per bird. Cages provided.
  2. A bird that crows the most times in allotted time is the winner.
  3. No touching cage or bird.
  4. Winner takes all entry money (guaranteed $20.00).
  5. Open to anyone, BIRD MUST BE ENTERED IN THE SHOW
