MILITARY APPRECIATION DAY EVENTS:

1:00PM – 2:00PM - Company Bees – Portable Stage

4PM – Flag Ceremony with Prayer Service, National Anthem, and laying of the Wreath

4:00PM – 8:00PM – Alter Ego (Veteran Band) - Portable Stage

4:30PM – 6:30PM – Living Statues (Statue of Liberty & Male Soldier)

6:30PM – Patriotic Art & Essay Contest Winner Award Presentation – Portable Stage

ALL DAY – ARCY Patriotic Painting Display - Location TBD

ALL DAY – Military Memorial - Main Office

6:30PM – Thank You Cards and Patriotic Art & Essay Contest Display - Main Office

Thank You Card Submission - In Honor of Military Appreciation Day

CONTEST DETAILS: Submit a handwritten card, email, or the letter below thanking the Military and Veterans for their service. Letters will be displayed all day on Military Appreciation Day (August 17th) by the Main Office. Need help deciding what to do, here is a thank you note template to color and write on:

PATRIOTIC ART & ESSAY CONTEST

Category #1: Ages 2-5: Patriotic Coloring Contest

Category #2: Ages 6-9: Military Themed Photography, Art, Essay Contest

Prizes: 1st Place $50, 2nd Place $35, 3rd Place $20

Choose One:

  • Military Themed Photography that the child takes and edits themselves.
  • Military Themed Art created by the participant (drawing can be done in pencil, pen, marker, color pencil, crayons, markers, paints, etc)
  • Military Themed Essay: Minimum of 50 words – Prompt: If you were to design a monument dedicated to the military/veterans what would it be and why?

Category #3: Ages 10-13: Military Themed Photography, Art, Essay Contest

Prizes: 1st Place $50, 2nd Place $35, 3rd Place $20

Choose One:

  • Military Themed Photography that the child takes and edits themselves.
  • Military Themed Art created by the participant (drawing can be done in pencil, pen, marker, color pencil, crayons, markers, paints, etc)
  • Military Themed Essay: Minimum of 100 words – Prompt: If you were to design a monument dedicated to the military/veterans what would it be and why?

SUBMISSION FORMAT: Photos of the art (if on a canvas) or a digital scanned image.

DISPLAY INFO: We request ALL participants to drop off their artwork & essays at the main office on Tuesday, August 15th to be displayed throughout the fairgrounds.

PRIZES: The veterans and active military members of the fair committee will choose winners and announce winners by Monday August 14th. All winners must bring their artwork to the fairgrounds on Tuesday, August 15th. If it is not received, winners will forfeit their place and the second place individual will be called. Cash prize for each winner within each category will receive an award and complimentary family 4 pack of tickets for admission into Thursday’s Fair, August 17th. Winners will have their artwork displayed on Thursday August 17th at the fair and will be presented with their award on Thursday August 17th at 6:30 PM. All winners MUST BE PRESENT to receive their award that night.

TO ENTER:

  • Email submission to thewashingtoncountyfair@gmail.com by Friday August 11th and include your First & Last Name, DOB, and City you live. Please use “Patriotic Art & Essay Contest” in the subject line. Please also include best contact information.
  • Canvas or Paper (8×10 or 8.5 x 11)
  • Materials allowed: Watercolor, Colored Pencil, Pastel, Charcoal, Tempera, Crayon, Acrylic Paint, Pen, Ink, Oil, or Marker.
  • With submission include a short explanation of the meaningful message of the artwork
  • Creator MUST be between enter the correct age category , and include a valid DOB with submission
  • To have artwork displayed on the fairgrounds, all artwork must be brought to the main office by Tuesday, August 15th. All winners MUST bring their artwork to the main office by Tuesday August 15th or have the prize forfeited.
  • We need the contact information of a parent or guardian for each participant
